Technical Specifications Recognizes human factor P, a 53 kD glycosylated protein present in blood serum. Factor P binds to microbial surfaces and binds and stabilizes the complement component 3- and complement component 5-convertase enzyme complexes. C3b then acts as an opsonin or initiates the complement pathway again creating a positive feedback loop which acts only on the bacterial cell, leaving the host cells unharmed. Deficiency of factor P makes the host more susceptible to bacterial infections, particularly to Neisseria species and meningococcal infections. Is reported to inhibit the function of factor P. Removal of Sodium Azide is recommended prior to use in functional assays. XXX recommend the use of EQU003 for this purpose.
